February 3, 2022 – SWIMMING & DIVING REGIONALS

Swimming regional tournaments will be held Friday and Saturday at various locations.

Locally, Asheboro and Wheatmore had excellent seasons with Asheboro reporting that 15 swimmers qualifying for the regional tournament is the most in school history. Including alternates, Wheatmore will send about a dozen swimmers to regional competition. Providence Grove and Trinity will also be represented in the 1A/2A meet.

Schools in the 1A and 2A classifications are grouped together since fewer smaller schools participate in the sport. Swimmers from Wheatmore, Trinity and Providence Grove will compete Friday in the 1A/2A Central Region at Greensboro Aquatic Center (GAC). Races are scheduled to begin at 4:30 pm.

Asheboro and other MPC swimmers will be at the GAC Saturday morning for a 9:00 start in the 3A Central Region.

State Swimming and Diving Championships will take place next week.

Uwharrie Charter and Trinity wrestling advanced to the regional finals in Dual Team competition Wednesday with the Bulldogs falling to top seeded Bandys for the west region championship. The Eagles traveled to Rosewood and returned home with a third dual team regional title.

Uwharrie Charter won the Dual Team Championship in 2019 and will face Avery County this Saturday in a rematch of the last state title match which was held in 2020. Due to covid restrictions, there was not a team tournament held last year.
