August 12, 2018 – Dawson Painter allowed one hit and one run in each of the first two innings, but Troy, Alabama Post 70 was not able to scratch any more as Randolph County Post 45 recorded a 3-2 come-from-behind victory to win the American Legion Southeast Regional for a second straight year.

Troy took their first lead with a solo home run by Gage Herring in the top of the first inning but Painter hit his own solo shot to tie the game in the bottom of the first. It was Painter's eighth home run of the year.

Troy's Joey Wozniak doubled to lead off the second inning and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Brayden Baggett and the Alabama champions led 2-1.

Dawson Painter got his second hit in the third inning and scored his second run on a Bryce Marsh double.

The score remained tied until the bottom of the sixth inning when Trevor Marsh was hit by a pitch to lead off for Post 45. After an out, a pitching change and two wild pitches, Marsh scored the final run of the game on a Spencer Lanier triple.

Painter was 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and a home run. Lanier was 2-for-3 on the afternoon and Post 45 also recorded hits by Braxton Davis, Trevor Marsh and Bryce Marsh.

Following the game, Dawson Painter was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2018 Regional Tournament. In five games he had nine hits in 17 at bats (.529 average) with a home run and seven runs scored. Painter made two appearances on the mound for a total of nine innings, including the complete game win in the championship. Both of his pitching appearances came against Troy Post 70.

Host team Randolph County Post 45 (24-17) will be joined by seven other teams for the double elimination tournament with the Regional Champion advancing to the American Legion World Series in Shelby.

Six of the seven teams have qualified for this year's tournament including five state champions: Troy, Alabama Post 70 (30-6); Tallahassee, Florida Post 13 (16-19-2); Lyon County, Kentucky (19-9); Wilmington, North Carolina Post 10 (22-6); and Chapin-Newberry, South Carolina Posts 193/24 (20-5).

The West Virginia State Championship is scheduled to conclude Saturday afternoon. That champion will complete the bracket for next week's regional tournament.

Troy, Tallahassee, Wilmington and Randolph County were all participants in the 2017 regional This year will be the third straight appearance for Troy, Alabama and the fourth straight year for Tallahassee, Florida.

2018 will mark the third appearance for Wilmington since Post 45 began hosting the regional in 2013 and the third time the Chapin area has been represented here. Chapin-Newberry participated in the 2015 tournament and in 2013, Irmo-Chapin Post 193 was the South Carolina champion.
