December 31, 2017 – The 9th Annual Holy Angels Wrestling Tournament took place Friday and Saturday at Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte. The tournament featured teams from four states with proceeds benefitting the non-profit Holy Angels, Inc.

Two local wrestlers made it to the championship round in their weight classifications.

Ethan Oakley from Wheatmore defeated Carson Smith from Southeast Guilford to win the 120 pound classification by a 5-1 decision.

Asheboro's Michael Smith finished as runner-up to Jalen Brooks from Cardinal Gibbons in the 220 weight class by major decision.

December 30, 2017The Courier-Tribune Christmas Invitational boys tournament concluded Saturday night with the Wheatmore Warriors defeating the Asheboro Blue Comets 47-45 in overtime. It was the first CTCI championship in Wheatmore's history.

December 20, 2017 – Congratulations to Randleman High School senior Trey Ross who signed his Letter of Intent to play football at Appalachian State University.

Ross led the Tigers with 41 receptions this season and was second on the team with 6 receiving TD's and 675 yards.

Florence, SC Post 1 has announced via Twitter that the 2018 North Carolina-South Carolina Challenge will be played in Salisbury, NC from June 15-17. The Challenge matches three teams from each state in a 'round-robin' format for a total of nine games in three days.

The host team, Rowan County, will be joined by Garner and 2017 national semi-finalist Randolph County Post 45 as the North Carolina representatives.

South Carolina teams involved in the event include Florence, Rock Hill and Chapin-Newberry.

December 8, 2017 - Saturday football changes from the North Carolina High School Athletic Association

CHAPEL HILL – Due to winter weather in the Winston-Salem area and what is expected
to be dangerous conditions for spectators earlier in the day, the North Carolina
High School Athletic Association has made the difficult decision to delay the start
of the 2017 4AA and 4A Football State Championship games scheduled at Wake Forest
University’s BB&T Field.

The start of the 4AA game between Wake Forest and Mallard Creek has been delayed
three hours and is now scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. Subsequently, the 4A game
between Scotland County and Harding University has also been delayed three hours and
is now scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
