January 29, 2018 – Wrestling team playoffs

Dual Team Brackets for the 2017-18 wrestling post-season have been released by the NCHSAA. Area conference champions Wheatmore (PAC 7), Uwharrie Charter (Yadkin Valley) and Southeast Guilford (Mid-Piedmont) are joined by 2nd place teams from Trinity, South Stanly and Asheboro. Three other 1A teams from the YVC also qualified as 'wild card' teams: West Montgomery, South Davidson and North Rowan.

The first two rounds are scheduled for Tuesday, January 30. See the area match-ups at the SportsTone Wrestling page.

Locations have not been set for all of the Tuesday matches but Asheboro and Trinity will be wrestling at home.

January 29, 2018 – From Trinity High School

Congratulations to Trinity High School's Caitlin Swiggett and Leland Hayes
for winning the Sportsmanship award presented by the Randolph Sports
Council. They will be honored at a banquet Monday night at Snyder Farms.

January 28, 2018 – The North Carolina Department of American Legion Baseball has named Post 45's Cameron Morrison the 2017 Area III Player of the Year. The award is scheduled to be presented officially at the annual American Legion Hall of Fame Ceremony in Kinston on March 24th.

A graduate of North Moore High School, Morrison played Legion ball in Asheboro for four summers and was a leader of the 2017 State Championship team. Last summer also marked the first time that a Post 45 team advanced past the Regional round and participated in the American Legion World Series, winning their first two games before being eliminated in the National Semi-finals.

Morrison led the squad with a .390 batting average and 64 runs scored. His 5 home runs was second most on the team and his 47 runs batted in was third on last year's team.

Perhaps more important was Morrison's work behind the plate as catcher for Post 45's defense. He threw out 12 base runners and picked off another while committing just one error in over 300 innings caught.

In four seasons, Morrison's 162 games played (with a documented plate appearance) is very likely the most ever by a Post 45 player. He is continuing his baseball career at Catawba College in Salisbury.
