June 30, 2018 – Saturday Schedule

LEGION BASEBALL

Concord 9, Eastern Randolph 8

Travis Boone, Evan Shaw and Connor Shipley each took to the mound for the first time in a senior legion game for Post 81 with Shipley pitching one-plus inning and taking the loss.

Noah Love got the win for Concord.

Connor Patterson led off the game with a triple and scored on a ground out by Shipley. Concord went ahead 5-1 before Eastern Randolph retook the lead 6-5 in the fourth inning.

Post 51 tied the game in the bottom of the fourth then Hunter Little led off the fifth inning with a home run to give Post 81 the lead again at 7-6.

Concord went back in front with two runs in the sixth but Eastern Randolph tied it in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Mason Canoy. In the bottom of the inning however, McConner Wallace recorded a pinch hit single and scored the game ending run on an error.

Patterson, Little and Canoy recorded two hits each for Post 81. Along with Little's home run, Eastern Randolph got extra base hits for Patterson (double, triple), Shipley and Matt Moody.


June 29, 2018 – Friday Schedule

LEGION BASEBALL

Randolph County 9, Eastern Randolph 7  (9 innings)

Post 45 jumped out to a 7-1 lead with eight hits in the first two innings including a two run triple and two run home run by Tristan Marsh.

Post 81 responded with six unanswered and tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Randolph County left a go-ahead run at third in the seventh and Eastern Randolph left two runners on in the eighth before Post 45 broke the tie in the ninth inning.

Trevor Marsh started on the mound for Post 45. He was followed by Travis Winslow, Hunter Hill and Dawson Painter who earned the win.

Connor Patterson was the Post 81 starter. Mason Canoy took over in the third followed by Hunter Little who pitched three innings and took the loss.

Offensively, Patterson, Little, Kaleb Lowe and Matt Moody all recorded two hits for Eastern Randolph. Moody, Lowe and Jordan Cassell all hit doubles.

Bryce Marsh had three hits for Post 45 including an RBI double. Dawson Painter and Spencer Lanier both had two hits with Lanier's ninth inning single driving in the winning runs. Tristan Marsh was 2 for 2 with a triple, home run, four RBI and three runs scored.

Winston-Salem 4, Eastern Randolph 0

Eastern Randolph Post 81 watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 4-0 loss to Winston-Salem despite out-hitting Post 55 seven to four.

Reliever Spencer Treadaway was credited with the victory for Winston-Salem. He went three and a third innings, allowing no runs on two hits, striking out four and walking none. Adam Dossenbach took the loss for Eastern Randolph Post 81. He lasted five innings, allowing four hits and four runs while striking out three.

Connor Patterson led Eastern Randolph with three hits in four at bats.

Randolph County 3, Davidson County 0

Randolph County defeated Davidson County 3-0 as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Braxton Davis earned the win for Post 45. He allowed two hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out five and walking one. Trevor Marsh threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Lonnie Bailey took the loss for Davidson County. He surrendered three runs on five hits over five and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking one.

Tristan Marsh led Randolph County 2018 with two hits in three at bats.


June 27, 2018 – Wednesday Schedule

LEGION BASEBALL

Kernersville 7, Eastern Randolph 0

Kernersville starter TJ Corlett pitched the complete game shutout for the win against Eastern Randolph Post 81. Corlett was aided by three double plays turned by the Post 36 defense.

Scottie Thompson pitched into the fourth inning and took the loss. Nate Canter finished the game on the mound.

Connor Patterson, Matt Moody, Hunter Little, Jordan Cassell and Connor Shipley all singled for Post 81.

Randolph County jumped out to a 4-0 lead at Holt-Moffitt Field while Bryce Marsh kept the Davidson County bats quiet. Marsh allowing one unearned run on two hits and striking out six in six innings of work. Dawson Painter pitched the seventh inning.

A three run home run by Tristan Marsh capped the scoring in the sixth inning.

Landon Smith was 3 for 3 with two doubles. Nathan Burton had two hits for Davidson County.


June 25, 2018 – Monday Results

Randolph County at Kernersville POSTPONED 6/30

Davidson County 3, Eastern Randolph 0  (6.5 innings)

So far this summer, Eastern Randolph Post 81 has totaled more runs during their final at bat than during any other inning. Trailing Davidson County 3-0, mother nature stepped in with lightning and then rain and Post 81 never got the chance to try for another comeback.

Post 8 scored single runs in the first, third and fourth innings and moved ahead of Post 81 in the Northern Division standings.

Brandon Warlick pitched all six innings, allowing three hits to Mason Canoy, Connor Patterson and Connor Murphy.


June 25, 2018 – Friends, relatives and classmates of 17-year-old Tyler Bova are scheduling multiple fundraisers for the rising senior at Trinity High School. Tyler was critically injured in an automobile crash in Utah which claimed the life of his parents and younger brother on June 19th.

*Trinity's senior athlete Paxton Phillips has started a Go Fund Me Page to help. They are trying to raise $10,000 for the family.

*The Grown Ups are hosting a Benefit for the Bovas on Friday July 13 from 5:00 -11:00 pm. A Cornhole Tournament with a live auction, food and more will take place at at Griffin Farm, located at 6617 Suits Rd, Archdale. The tournament will be $25 per 2 man team if preregistered and $30 at the door. You can preregister HERE.

Winston-Salem 9, Eastern Randolph 7

Eastern Randolph's seventh inning comeback wasn't enough to lift Post 81 out of the seven run hole they were in and lost to Winston-Salem Post 55 by two runs.

Post 81 led 2-1 after four but Winston-Salem scored four runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to build a 9-2 advantage going to the final inning. Five runs scored in the bottom of the seventh before the final out was made.

Connor Patterson, Hunter Little and Mason Canoy each had two hits for Eastern Randolph. Tyler Johnson was 3 for 4 to lead Winston-Salem.

In a reversal of the first meeting between the teams, Winston-Salem jumped out to a 3-0 and held on for the one run win. The win gives Post 55 a 3-4 record while Post 45 drops to 5-2 in the Northern Division.

Randolph County still leads the division but only by a half game over Eastern Randolph. Winston-Salem and Greensboro are tied for fifth place but only two games out of first.

Braxton Davis allowed one hit in six innings and earned the division win over Winston-Salem Post 55.

Mason Coble pitched the seventh and preserved the shutout.

Post 45 scored at least one run in each of their offensive innings, led by Trevor Marsh who went 2 for 2 and Bryce Marsh who knocked a three run home run in the third inning.


June 22, 2018 – New coaches will be taking over some area teams when the next high school seasons come around.

Burton Cates returns after nine seasons at Lee County (2009-17). Cates coached the football Wildcats from 1984-2008.

Michael Sink has served as Bulldogs coach for men's and women's soccer for over 20 years. He has also assisted in both the men's and women's basketball programs for more than 10 years.

Eastern Randolph and Stanly County got one game in before weather brought an end to Thursday night action. The win by Post 81 improved their record to 6-1 in the conference. Stanly County is now 0-7.

G1 Western Randolph 6, Montgomery County 5

The first of two five inning games was tied at five in the bottom of the fifth when Western Randolph's Abbey Parrish scored on a K Hughes sacrifice fly for the game ending run.

Skyler Swaney earned the victory in the pitcher's circle. She surrendered five runs on four hits over five innings, striking out five and walking none.

G2 Western Randolph 6, Montgomery County 1


June 21, 2018 – Mason Coble, Post 45 pitcher and recent West Montgomery High School graduate, has been honored as the Yadkin Valley Conference Male Athlete of the Year.

Coble was honored with the same award at West Montgomery where has has also been recognized as a North Carolina Scholar Athlete, MVP and All-Conference in Warrior wrestling and honorable mention All-Conference in baseball. Coble also received the Sammy Jackson 'Iron Man' award in baseball.

High Point 5, Randolph County 2

Randolph County led 2-0 after four innings but High Point scored five unanswered in the later innings and came away with an important Northern Division win at McCrary Park.

A double by Braxton Davis put Post 45 ahead as Landon Smith and Tristan Marsh scored in the fourth.

Post 87 tied the game in the fifth when C Mills scored on a single by T Hearst and J Crump crossed the plate on a K Proctor sacrifice fly. High Point added three more runs in the top of the seventh for the final margin.

Eastern Randolph 26, Cary 10

In the middle of divisional races, neither Eastern Randolph nor Cary wanted to use any more pitchers than was absolutely necessary. The result was a shoot-out at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh as the teams combined for 36 runs on 35 hits in five innings

Hunter Little and Connor Murphy had four hits each to lead Post 81. Little's two run homer in the fifth was Eastern Randolph's first home run of the season and produced two of his team-leading five RBI.

Connor Patterson, Connor Shipley and Jordan Cassell had three hits each. Mason Canoy, and Kaleb Lowe had two apiece. Eastern Randolph sent 22 batters to the plate in the top of the fifth inning with 16 scoring.

Logan Mize pitched two innings before giving way to Colton Craven who got the win.

Eastern Randolph took the lead with three runs in the fifth inning then added an insurance run in the top of the seventh which turned out to be the game winner in the Northern Division matchup at Holt-Moffitt Field in Lexington.

June 18, 2018 – The North Carolina High School Athletic Association has announced the final standings in the annual Wells Fargo Conference Cup competitions for the 2017-2018 school year.

The award recognizes the schools with the best overall athletic programs within each conference.

Award winners for the three conferences involving the public schools in Randolph County are:

Sumter, SC 4, Randolph County 3

Sumter Post 15 jumped out to a 4-0 lead in their final game in the North Carolina-South Carolina Challenge and held on for the one run victory over Randolph County at Catawba College.

Three runs in the second inning on a solo home run by Ryan Moore and a two RBI double by Jacob Holladay had Sumter out in front early. The fourth run came in the third when Daulton Dabbs doubled and scored.

Post 45 scored their three runs in the fifth inning with hits by Spencer Lanier, Dawson Painter and an RBI double by Landon Smith. Mixed among the hits were walks by Blake Marsh, Bryce Marsh and a bases-loaded walk by Chris Hardin. Lanier had two hits for Randolph County.

Sumter starter David Frey pitched into the fifth inning and earned the win. Avery Jones pitched the first three innings for Post 45 and took the loss.

Rock Hill, SC 6, Randolph County 4

Randolph County took a 4-0 lead over Rock Hill Post 34 in the first inning on hits by Dawson Painter, Tristan Marsh, Braxton Davis and Luke Hinson along with a Bryce Marsh walk, an RBI ground-out by Landon Smith and an error on a ball hit by Troy Kinney. After the first inning however, no Post 45 runner was able to get past second base as Rock Hill came from behind for the win.

SC Post 34 tied the game with four runs in the fourth and scored two more in the sixth for the final score.

High Point 11, Eastern Randolph 9

Eastern Randolph scored three runs in the first inning and six in the seventh, but in between, High Point totaled 11 runs and earned a split with Post 81 in their two regular season meetings.

Alec Hunter pitched four and a third innings to get the win for Post 87 while Scottie Thompson took the loss.

Hunter Little, Jordan Cassell and Mason Canoy had two hits each for Post 81.

Mark McLamb, Colin Smith and Jacob Edwards recorded two apiece for High Point.


June 16, 2018 – Saturday Schedule

Florence, SC 14, Randolph County 4

Home runs by Austin Curry and Dawson Painter were not enough for Post 45 in the North Carolina-South Carolina Challenge. Florence, SC Post 1 defeated Randolph County 14-4 at Catawba College.

Harris Jackson suffered the loss.

Eastern Randolph 13, High Point 3

Winning pitcher Connor Patterson (5 innings) and reliever Nate Canter (2 innings) allowed four hits and three runs as Post 81 defeated High Point Post 87 13-3 at Finch Field.

At the plate, Jordan Cassell had four hits with three runs scored and three RBI to lead eastern Randolp's 17 hit attack. Connor Shipley had three hits while Patterson, Hunter Little and Matt Moody had two hits each.

Tyrese Hearst had two of High Point's hits and Alec Hunter knocked a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh to cap the scoring.


June 15, 2018 – Friday Schedule

Randolph County 7, Steubenville, OH 5

Steubenville, OH 11, Randolph County 7

Post 45 used a six run fifth inning to seal the win in the first game against Jefferson County, Ohio.

Braxton Davis pitched two-thirds of an inning in relief and got the win over Ohio Post 33.

Landon Smith was 3 for 4 at the plate with a double and two RBI to lead Randolph County at the plate. Austin Curry had two hits in the game.

In game two, Randolph scored the last five runs but an 11-2 lead by Post 33 was too much to overcome.

Blake Marsh got the start and took the loss.

Dawson Painter recorded two hits in the loss including an inside-the-park home run. Carson Clapp, Bryce Marsh and Braxton Davis also had two hits each.

Anna Thomas got the game one win for Post 81 allowing one run on three hits in five innings of work. Eastern Randolph recorded 10 hits with Jacie Arrington, Courtnee Carter, Aniyah King and Thomas collecting multiple hits each.

Sara Rice earned the win in game two with Tori Maness getting the save. Maddison Taylor had two hits for Post 81 while Kella Goins and Jacie Arrington each hit solo home runs.

LEGION BASEBALL

Rowan County 12, Randolph County 8

Rowan County scored 10 runs in the sixth inning for a come-from-behind win at McCrary Park.

Post 45 led 4-0 after one inning and increased it's lead to 7-0 before Rowan sent 13 batters to the plate in the sixth. Aided by four Randolph errors in the inning, Rowan County pulled ahead 10-7 and held on for the 12-8 final.

Bryce Marsh hit a home run for Post 45 which out hit Rowan 12 to 11.

G1 Wake Forest 10, Eastern Randolph 9

G2 Eastern Randolph 10, Wake Forest5

Eastern Randolph fell behind 9-2 in the first game of a doubleheader at Grady Lawson Field and managed to cut their deficit to 9-8 before falling to Wake Forest Post 187 by the 10-9 final.

A half-hour delay in the bottom of the first inning occurred when Wake Forest outfielder Keisuke Fijio made a leaping attempt to catch a fly ball in front of the left field fence. Emergency medical personnel were called and it was later determined that Fujio had suffered a broken leg.

Jordan Cassell was 2 for 3 with two triples for Post 81. Logan Mize suffered the loss on the mound.

In the second game, Post 81 plated seven runs in the third inning to go from a 2-0 deficit to a 7-2 lead. Eastern Randolph batters tallied 8 of their 12 total hits in the third.

For the game, Scottie Thompson was 3 for 4 with three RBI. Connor Patterson had two hits and three RBI. Jordan Cassell had two doubles and two RBI. Colton Craven picked up the win in relief.

June 9, 2018 – American Legion Softball begins Tuesday for the two Randolph County teams. The Eastern Randolph team will play their home games at Eastern Randolph High School while the Western Randolph team will be based at Randleman High School.

June 9, 2018 – Congratulations to the more than 1400 graduates in the Class of 2018 from high schools across Asheboro and Randolph County.


June 8, 2018 – Southwestern Randolph senior Bryce Marsh has signed with Pfeiffer University for baseball.

Marsh was named to the All-Conference baseball team multiple times and selected the Mid-Piedmont Conference Pitch of the Year in 2018.

The Pfeiffer Falcons are new members of the USA South Conference.


June 7, 2018 – Thursday Results

Randolph County 3, Greensboro 1

Both teams were strong on the hill as Randolph County defeated Greensboro 3-1.

Bryce Marsh earned the win for Post 45 (3-0, 9-6) throwing six and two-thirds innings, allowing one run on four hits with nine strike outs and one walk. Braxton Davis threw one-third of an inning in relief to earn the save.

Bennett Nance took the loss for Greensboro (1-3, 2-5).

Bryce Marsh drove in Trevor Marsh in the first inning to give Randolph County an early lead. In the third, Dawson Painter doubled and then scored on a Bryce Marsh double. Marsh moved to third on a single by Landon Smith and scored Post 45's third run on a sacrifice fly by Spencer Lanier.


June 6, 2018 – Wednesday Results

LEGION BASEBALL

Randolph County 9, Rowan County 8

Randolph County got out to an eight-run lead in the sixth inning but had to hold on for a 9-8 victory over Rowan County on Wednesday.

Post 45 got on the board in the first inning when Landon Smith singled in Dawson Painter. Randolph produced four more runs in the fourth with doubles by Spencer Lanier and Austin Curry, singles by Smith and Blake Marsh and a couple of Rowan errors.

A solo home run by Smith in the fifth followed by two more runs in the sixth gave Post 45 an 8-0 lead before Rowan County started their come back.

Rowan scored seven runs in the sixth inning thanks to singles by Garrett Alwine, Trevor Atwood, and John Owen, a double by Hayden Setzer and two errors to make it a one run game.

Both teams scored single runs in the seventh inning to reach the final score.

Carter Long allowed five hits and five runs over five and a third innings, striking out seven. Alex Hamilton, Spencer Lanier and Painter followed Long on the mound with Painter earning the save.

Maddux Holshouser took the loss for Rowan County.

Randolph County improved to 8-6, Rowan County is 9-1.

Garner 4, Eastern Randolph 1

Eastern Randolph fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 4-1 loss to Garner Nationals on Wednesday.

Tanner Flowers was credited with the victory for Garner. He surrendered zero runs on three hits over four and two-thirds innings, striking out four. Mason Cooper, Jacob Fisher, and Kyle Bowers all put in work in relief out of the bullpen.

Jackson Hartley took the loss for Post 81 . He went four innings, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out one.

Connor Shipley went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Eastern Randolph Post 81 in hits.

Garner improved to 4-0 while Eastern Randolph dropped to 4-5.


June 6, 2018 – Following last summer's experiment with 19-and-under softball, North Carolina American Legion officially sanctioned the sport as an official program in the state. In preparation for the 2018 season, Eastern Randolph Post 81 Lady Legion Softball held a Meet The Team community event Tuesday evening at Providence Grove High School.

Post 81 Commander Ricky York and Past Department (State) Commander Cary McMasters were on hand with words of encouragement for the players and coaches prior to the team being introduced to the crowd.

An intrasquad scrimmage was held with American Legion umpires in preparation for next week's season opener.

Home field for the Post 81 team will be the Grady Lawson Baseball & Softball Complex at Eastern Randolph High School with the first games scheduled for Tuesday, June 12. That will be a home doubleheader against Stanly County.

Randolph County 9, Greensboro 4

Bryce Marsh was bad news for opposing pitchers on Tuesday, driving in four on three hits to lead Randolph County past Greensboro 9-4. Marsh drove in all four of his rbi on a grand slam in the second.

A sacrifice fly by Braxton Davis in the first inning drove in Trevor Marsh. Greensboro then evened things up at one in the bottom of the inning when Ryan Waltman singled in Brady Quackenbush before Marsh's homer gave Post 45 the lead for good in the second inning.

Randolph County added two runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh while Greensboro scored three over the final two innings.

Trevor Marsh led things off on the mound for Randolph County, surrendering one run on two hits over two and a third innings. Travis Winslow finished the game and earned the win.

Jaylen Guy went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Greensboro in hits.

Eastern Randolph 3 Kernersville 2

A walk-off single propelled Eastern Randolph Post 81 to a dramatic 3-2 victory over Kernersville Post 36. The game was tied at two with Eastern Randolph batting in the bottom of the seventh when Hunter Little singled, driving in Matt Moody for the game ending run.

Little also picked up the win, allowing two hits and two runs over one inning. Connor Peterson pitched four innings before turning the duties over to Mason Canoy for the fifth and sixth innings.

Bryant Carrey started the game for Kernersville Post 36. Ricky Gonzalez took the loss.

Post 81 delivered ten hits in the game with Little (3 for 4), Moody (2 for 3) and Connor Shipley (2 for 2) leading the way.

Eastern Randolph played error free ball in the division win.


June 3, 2018 – Sunday Results

LEGION BASEBALL

G1 Randolph County 11, Apex 7

Both Randolph County and Apex had their offenses going on Sunday, but Randolph County eventually prevailed 11-7 in the first game of a doubleheader at McCrary Park.

Post 45 pulled away for good with seven runs in the third inning. Braxton Davis singled in one run, Tyler Campbell singled in two runs, and Trevor Marsh drove in three runs with a single.

Harris Jackson got the start for Randolph County. He lasted four innings, allowing three hits and four runs while striking out two.

G2 Apex 19, Randolph County 4

Post 45 had trouble keeping up with Apex in a 19-4 loss in the second game. A nine run fourth inning and seven runs in the sixth were to much to overcome.

Blake Marsh took the loss with six runs on four hits in three innings of work.

Spencer Lanier, Luke Hinson, Carson Clapp, Bryce Marsh, and Tyler Campbell all had one hit for Randolph County.

Greensboro 4, Eastern Randolph 2

Greensboro Post 53 scored two runs in each of the first two innings and held on for a 4-2 at Eastern Guilford High School.

Eastern Randolph scored two in the seventh inning on a two RBI pinch hit single by Scottie Thompson which drove in Connor Shipley and Mason Canoy.

Thompson pitched five innings and suffered the loss allowing four runs on seven hits.

Colby Stuart picked up the complete game victory for the Post 53 Redwings.


June 3, 2018 – LEGION SOFTBALL

American Legion Post 81 Fast Pitch Softball will hold a Meet the Team/Media Night at 6:00 pm Tuesday at the Providence Grove High School softball field.

After last summer's 'unofficial trial run' to determine interest in establishing softball at a state-wide level, 2018 marks the first year that the sport has been officially sanctioned by North Carolina American Legion.

Tuesday's event will be a chance to meet the players and coaches of Post 81's inaugural team and to see them in action during an intrasquad scrimmage.

Randolph County 7 Kernersville 2

Bryce Marsh surrendered two runs on three hits with seven strike outs over five innings as Randolph County defeated Kernersville in the division opener for both teams.

Luke Kimrey toed the rubber for Kernersville. He went four innings, allowing four runs on three hits before giving way to Drey Pettycord and TJ Corlett who each pitched one inning.

Dawson Painter and Braxton Davis managed two hits to lead Randolph County at the plate with Painter and Trevor Marsh each scoring twice. Davis ended with four RBI from his two doubles.

Eastern Randolph 2, Greensboro 1

Eastern Randolph Post 81 took their league opener in dramatic fashion, thanks to a walk-off error in the bottom of the seventh inning. Hunter Little singled to lead off the home half of the seventh then moved to second when Jordan Cassell was hit by a pitch. Tyson Measamer's bunt was fielded by the Greensboro third baseman who, on the run, made an errant throw to first which allowed Little to score the game ending run.

Post 81 manufactured a run in the first inning when Connor Patterson walked, advanced to second on a passed ball, moved to third on a Connor Shipley grounder and scored on Little's sacrifice fly to left field.

Little's seventh inning single was the only hit for Post 81.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Greensboro's Bennett Nance and Nathan Landreth combined on the one-hitter with each allowing one unearned run.

For Eastern Randolph, Logan Mize pitched into the sixth inning and was responsible for the Post 53 run. Nate Canter finished the game and earned the win.
