August 17, 2021 – BE PREPARED

High school sports schedules are close to normal for the fall athletic season but spectators should be aware of some differences, especially when traveling to a school you are not familiar with.

Tonight, for example, Trinity volleyball opens their season at Thomasville High School where masks are required for anyone attending the match. Thomasville will not be selling tickets at the door/gate for athletic events but will continue requiring that tickets be bought in advance on-line. Other schools may have similar policies.

As of Monday, masks were optional at sporting events for the six high schools in the Randolph County School System.

Likewise, Uwharrie Charter Academy does not have any mask requirement at this time.

If your team is playing in Guilford County however, masks are required for anyone attending an indoor event.

Masks are also required for indoor events at Montgomery Central High School in Troy where advance tickets are available for purchase through their website.

Expect different restrictions when visiting schools in different systems and municipalities and be prepared for those restrictions to change through the school year. Have a mask available when you head to a game, especially if it's inside.

August 12, 2021 – High School Sports

Fall sports competition begins next week for North Carolina high school teams as cross country, football, women's golf, men's soccer, women's tennis and volleyball will return on their regular schedules. The big difference will be the new conference alignment which will see seven of the public schools in Randolph County in the same conference.

The Piedmont Athletic Conference (PAC 7) is now a split conference with two 1A schools – Eastern Randolph and Uwharrie Charter Academy, and five 2A schools – Providence Grove, Randleman, Southwestern Randolph, Trinity and Wheatmore.

Asheboro is the lone 3A school and will join Montgomery Central and four Davidson County schools – Ledford, Central Davidson, North Davidson and Oak Grove, in the new Mid-Piedmont Conference (MPC).
