Coby Price passed for 150 yards and three touchdowns as Randleman advanced to next week's Regional Finals. Robbie Rich caught two passes for 69 yards and two touchdowns. Dawson Edwards made three catches for 81 yards and a score.

Edwards rushed for another touchdown while Nahiem Lilly led the rushing attack with 123 yards.

South Granville scored on a 90 yard kick off return.

Naheim Lilly had a career high 246 rushing yards with four touchdowns to lead the Tigers who secured the win with 22 consecutive points in the second half. Lilly has 30 touchdowns on the season.

#4 West Stokes 26, #5 Eastern Randolph 21

A Tavis McAdoo touchdown run and a scoring pass from Cade Snotherly, along with a two point conversion run by JB Farrish and a PAT kick by Carter Moore, had the Eastern Randolph Wildcats up 15-6 at halftime.

West Stokes scored 20 straight points across the third and fourth quarters to pull ahead 26-15 before Cade Snotherly connected with Kaemen Marley with 2:55 remaining for the final score.

November 17, 2019 – CONFERENCE NEWS

The Walter Williams Bulldogs, Mid-Piedmont soccer champions and #3 seed in the 3A east bracket, earned a spot in the East Region championship match with a 1-0 win over #2 Chapel Hill on Saturday. Williams (8-2, 24-3) will play the winner of the fourth round match between top seed Jacksonville (19-1-1) and #4 seed Clayton (18-5-2) which was postponed because of the weather this weekend.

In the 1A East Region, North Moore (9-3, 13-5-1), from the Yadkin Valley Conference, hopes to advance to the regional finals when the Mustang's fourth round game at Raleigh Charter is played on Monday. That match was postponed from Saturday and will determine which team advances to face the top seed Franklin Academy (23-2) for the regional title.

FOOTBALL - PLAYOFFS

#5 Eastern Randolph 40, #12 Providence Grove 33

Four straight Patriot scores across the second and third quarters took Providence Grove from a 20-7 deficit to a 33-20 lead, but Eastern Randolph scored the games' final three touchdowns and advanced in the 2A West Region of the high school football playoffs.

Cade Snotherly connected with Kaeman Marley on scores of 45 and 16 yards and with Osiris Ross on a 53 yard touchdown pass. Ross also passed for a score, hitting JB Farrish on a receiver option play in the final minute of the first quarter. The Wildcats also scored on a Tavis McAdoo eight yard run and a 49 yard interception return by Marley with 49 seconds remaining in the game.

Drew Needham scored Patriot touchdowns on runs of two and one yards and Caleb Rogers scored on a four yard run. Luke Thomas had a pair of touchdown tosses, the first covered 55 yards on a pass to Jacob Marcrum who lateraled the ball to Rogers for a score. Thomas also connected with Marcrum on a 60 yard touchdown pass.

Eastern Randolph will play at West Stokes High School near King in the second round next Friday.

Naheim Lilly rushed for two touchdowns and 139 yards as Randleman advanced to the secon round of the 2AA playoffs. Nathan Green also carried for two scores on 43 yards rushing and Dawson Edwards had 27 yards a a touchdown for the Tigers.

Coby Price passed for 90 yards and one touchdown to Dominick Poole who totaled 60 receiving yards.

Edwards and Harrison Moffitt both had interceptions for the Tigers who will host East Duplin High School next Friday.

November 13, 2019 – WINTER SPORTS

Basketball began last night for Faith Christian and Fayetteville Street Christian Schools. Most public school teams will begin their seasons next week with Eastern Randolph, Wheatmore and Uwharrie Charter taking to the court on Tuesday, November 19, Asheboro and Providence Grove next Wednesday, and Southwestern Randolph and Trinity on Thursday the 21st. Randleman's first game is scheduled for Tuesday, December 3.

Wrestling begins next week with the first matches for seven teams on either Wednesday or Thursday. Providence Grove will hit the mats on November 27.

Meets will also begin next week for “Indoor” Track & Field participants while swim meets will start after Thanksgiving.

November 9, 2019 - ASHEBORO FOOTBALL

Asheboro High School has announced that Kevin Gillespie has resigned as head coach of the Blue Comets football team. The announcement was made Friday night following the team's final game of the season. Gillespie has spent the last three seasons at Asheboro accumulating a 5-28 record.

Gillespie made the move from Page High School following the 2016-17 school year after eleven seasons leading the Pirates' football program. Under Gillespie, Page won the State 4AA Championship in 2011 and finished as state runner-up in his final two seasons there. Page football was 101-45 under Gillespie's leadership.

Gillespie, who grew up in the Archdale area, previously served as head football coach at Trinity High School. The Bulldogs had a 34-26 record during his tenure from 2001-2005.

Tied 2-2 following regulation, the Warriors and Darkhorses played to a stalemate in two overtime periods before Clinton took the win on penalty kicks.

Ryan Smith scored both goals in regulation with an assist from Sergio Garcia. Jake Clodfelter had 12 saves in goal. Wheatmore got penalty kick makes from Garcia, Jagur Williams and Collin Burgess.

Braxton Davis scored both Cougar touchdowns and set a new SWR record for touchdowns in a season with 18. The previous record was 17 by Darius Martin in 2012. Davis had 78 rushing yards and 110 yards receiving in the loss.

Elijah Reza completed 13 passes for 215 yards but had three interceptions. Mason Cross had 33 receiving yards, Luke Hall 32, and Luke Dalke 16.

Eastern Randolph 62, Trinity 0

Tavis McAdoo passed 1000 rushing yards for the season with 190 yards and three first half touchdowns to spark the Wildcats. Colby Cockman scored on a 77 yard run for another rushing touchdown.

Cade Snotherly passed for 164 yards and crossed the 2000 passing yard threshold for the season with an 11 for 14 night and touchdown passes to Osiris Ross, Curtis Williams and two to J B Farrish.

The Wildcats also returned a punt for a score.

Trinity's Chandler Shell completed 7 of 15 passes for 65 yards with an interception.

Providence Grove 47, Jordan-Matthews 8

The Patriots produced 359 yards of offense to earn their sixth straight win over the Jets and their eighth win of the season.

Caleb Rogers carried for 75 yards and scored three touchdowns, Drew Needham scored with 57 rushing yards, Travis Boone had a rushing touchdown, Cam Way returned an interception for a touchdown and Luke Thomas - 6 for 10 with 127 passing yards - threw for a touchdown to Mason Collins.

November 4, 2019 - SOCCER PLAYOFFS - UPDATED FOR 1A CORRECTIONS

Southwestern Randolph, Wheatmore and Uwharrie Charter will open the men's soccer playoffs at home while Asheboro and Eastern Randolph begin the postseason with road games.

In the 3A West Region, the #13 seeded Cougars will host #20 Cuthbertson at 6 PM Wednesday.. In the East Region, #23 Asheboro travels to #10 Gray's Creek High School. The top seed from the Mid-Piedmont Conference, Williams High School, is the third seed in the east and will host #30 Union Pines.

Wheatmore, Eastern Randolph and Jordan-Matthews are all in the 2A East Region with #7 Wheatmore hosting #26 Walkertown, #31 Eastern Randolph playing at #2 Carrboro and #19 Jordan-Matthews at #14 James Kenan in the opening round.

Yadkin Valley Conference opponents Uwharrie Charter and Albemarle will face off against each other in the first round of the West Region when the #12 seeded Eagles host the 21st seeded Bulldogs on Wednesday.

Uwharrie Charter will host Piedmont Community in the first round after corrections were made to the 1A seeding. The Eagles are still seeded #12 but Piedmont replaced Albemarle as the 21 seed. The Bulldogs are the #20 seed and will play at Lincoln Charter. Conference champ Gray Stone is also in the west with a first round bye. North Moore is a 10 seed in the 1A eastern bracket and will host #23 East Carteret.

November 4, 2019 – STATE PLAYOFFS

In fall sports, football is in it's final week, seeding for the soccer playoffs will take place today, volleyball and cross country are in the final week of playoffs and the golf and tennis championships have been decided.

Williams won the Mid-Piedmont soccer championship and Southwestern Randolph finished in second place. Those teams will receive automatic bids into the state playoffs which are scheduled to begin Wednesday. Third place Asheboro will likely qualify and the season could continue for fourth place Southern Alamance.

Wheatmore won the Piedmont Athletic championship with Eastern Randolph and Jordan-Matthews finishing tied for second place. Either the Wildcats or the Jets will receive an automatic bid while the other, and the rest of the PAC 7 teams, wait for today's seeding process.

Gray Stone Day School won the Yadkin Valley soccer championship with Uwharrie Charter and North Moore ending in a second place tie. Both the Eagles and the Mustangs will likely make the 48-team field in 1A soccer with the rest of the conference watching the seeding process.

High School volleyball has reached the state semi-final stage. Tuesday night Wheatmore will host Ayden-Grifton High School in the East Regional Championship match. The winner will advance to the State Championship this Saturday evening at Fayetteville State University's Capel Arena.


November 3, 2019 – CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS

Regional Meets were held Saturday in all four classifications. A minimum of four teams from each region along with the fastest seven runners who are not on one of those teams advanced to the State Championship Meets this Saturday, November 9.

From Randolph County, the Wheatmore men's team advanced to the 2A Championship as did Benjamin Garcia (RHS) and Brody Gardner (ER).

The Eastern Randolph women's team qualified along with Olivia Frankel (PG), Katie Kocher and Halie Hains (RHS) and Morgan Cunha, Katie Fritz and Neva Hippert (WHS).

The State Championship Meets will be held at the Ivey M Redmon Sports Complex in Kernersville.

Morning races will feature the 1A and 3A championships for men and women with several runners from Mid-Piedmont (3A) and Yadkin Valley (1A) Conference teams racing at 9:00 (3A men), 9:30 (1A men), 10:00 (3A women) and 10:30 (1A women).

Afternoon race times are 2:00 (4A men), 2:30 (2A men), 3:00 (4A women) and 3:30 (2A women).

FROM WHEATMORE HIGH SCHOOL: Wheatmore traveled to the 2A Mideast Regional Meet in Cary, NC on Saturday. The warrior girls finished 7th in the region as a team while the boys finished 4th.

The warriors had an excellent day.  Morgan, Katie, Neva, Lindsay, Ellie, Allison, Jaxon, Finn, Cole, Dawson, Logan, and Tyler set personal records. The 4th place finish qualifies the boys to advance to the state meet next Saturday in Kernersville, NC. Morgan, Katie, and Neva qualified as individuals to go to the state meet.

This is the highest regional place ever for the boys and the first time Wheatmore cross country has qualified for the state meet in school history.

Jacob Stevens also provided a great deal of support and encouragement to the team by cheering the team on while wearing a pickle costume.

WHS: Carson Elliott had 11 service points, 23 digs and 16 kills, Hope Turbyfill had 5 service points (1 ace), 15 kills and 12 digs, Kaleigh Craft had 8 service points (1 ace), 14 digs, 43 assists and 1 kill.

Wheatmore will host the winner of Carrboro and Ayden Grifton in the East Regional Championship on Tuesday. Time to be announced.

FOOTBALL

Asheboro 23, SW Randolph 14

Khyland Hadley-Lindsay passed for one touchdown and ran for another, both in the first quarter, to give the Blue Comets a 14-0 lead. A second quarter safety by the Asheboro defense made the score 16-0 at halftime. Tyler Marsh also scored on a two yard run in the fourth quarter.

Hadley Lindsay was 8 of 19 passing for 87 yards with one interception and a 21 yard score to Isaiah Jackson. Marsh totaled 83 rushing yards, Hadley-Lindsay carried for 80 and Dyvon McKinney added 46 to lead the Asheboro ground attack. Logan Richardson caught five passes for 49 yards and Jackson had three catches for 38 yards.

Braxton Davis caught two touchdown passes from Elijah Reza for the Cougar scores. The first was a three yard toss, the second a 90 yard touchdown.

Reza was 9 of 28 passing for 157 yards and the two scores. Davis had three catches for 97 yards and two touchdowns.

Randleman 35, E Randolph 28

Naheim Lilly rushed for 203 yards and three touchdowns to lead Randleman. Jaquan Snipes added a touchdown and 83 yards. Coby Price was 4 of 7 passing for 40 yards and a touchdown pass to Dawson Edwards.

Tavis McAdoo had 112 rushing yards and a touchdown for the Wildcats. Cade Snotherly (5 of 18, 66 yards) and Kaemen Marley (1 of 1, 41 yards) had one touchdown pass each, both to Osiris Ross who also returned an interception for a score.

Wheatmore 49, Jordan-Matthews 14

In the middle of the first quarter the Warriors scored twice in under a minute to set the tone for the game and led 21-0 after the first.

Nick Halo passed for 268 yards and six touchdowns in the win. Zach Berrier caught four of the scores and Austin Biggs rushed for a touchdown.

Gabe Hernandez made two interceptions for Wheatmore.
