May 28, 2020 – SOUTHWESTERN RANDOLPH BASEBALL

Athletic Director Chris Chapman announced today that Ethan Marsh will take over as Head Coach of Southwestern Randolph baseball. Marsh is a 2007 graduate of SWR and has spent the last nine years as an assistant coach to Tyler Clapp who resigned the baseball position earlier this spring.


May 25, 2020 – ANNUAL AWARDS

The Randolph Sports Council recently announced their 14 scholarship winners for the 2019-2020 school year. Male and female student-athletes from each of the seven traditional public high schools in Randolph County were honored for leadership, scholastic achievement and community involvement.

This years annual banquet to honor the recipients was canceled.

May 24, 2020 – ALL-COUNTY BASKETBALL

The Courier-Tribune released their 2019-20 All Randolph County Team in boys basketball over the weekend.

The team, along with Player of the Year and Coach of the Year can be seen HERE.


May 19, 2020 – SUMMER BASEBALL

Registration for NC 3 summer baseball programs in Randolph County will be held on Saturday, May 30. Players may register between 9 am and noon at McCrary Park in Asheboro.

There will not be a workout on May 30 and players must be accompanied by a parent or guardian in order to register for either the 19-and-under team or the 17-and-under team.

May 15, 2020 – ASHEBORO HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION

Asheboro High School has announced that 2020 graduation ceremonies will be held for individual seniors and their families between Monday, June 1 and Thursday, June 4.

Dr. Crooks will host a meeting to provide more details next week and seniors will be able sign up for a time slot between Monday, May 25 and Thursday, May 28.

May 14, 2020 – UWHARRIE CHARTER ACADEMY GRADUATION

Uwharrie Charter Academy will hold ceremonies for graduating seniors spread across two days at the school south of Asheboro.

Seniors and their families will learn more about the logistics and the timing of the event next week but the dates have been set for Thursday, June 4 and Friday, June 5.

The Mid Piedmont 3A Conference has named the male and female Athletes of the Year and School Sportsmanship winner for 2019 – 2020:

Female Athlete of the Year – Heaven Maness, Senior – Southwestern Randolph

Male Athlete of the Year – Shane Whitter, Senior – Walter Williams

School Sportsmanship winner – Southwestern Randolph High School

May 9, 2020 – WHEATMORE HIGH SCHOOL

Jonathan Evans has been named head coach of men's basketball at Wheatmore High School according to a Saturday morning announcement by Warriors Athletic Director Rick Halo.

Evans has been on staff at Wheatmore in various sports for the past several years serving as an assistant in basketball, baseball and football. He has also served as JV basketball and baseball coach and took over the varsity softball program in 2019.

The Warriors finished 7-5 in the Piedmont Athletic Conference basketball standings last season, in a three way tie for second place, and 13-14 overall.

May 7, 2020 - RANDOLPH COUNTY SCHOOLS - UPDATED

Randolph County Schools announced on Tuesday that high school seniors in the school system would have graduation ceremonies on Saturday, July 25. Times for those ceremonies were announced Wednesday:

9:00 AM - Eastern Randolph, Randleman, Trinity and Southwestern Randolph

10:00 AM - Providence Grove, Wheatmore and Randolph Early College High School


May 6, 2020 – NCHSAA AWARDS

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association recognizes individual athletes for their academic achievement as well as entire teams. The top teams from Spring 2019 through Winter 2019-20 have been announced and Southwestern Randolph had the highest grade point average among women's golf teams in the state (3.93) and the third best GPA among men's basketball teams (3.63).

May 4, 2020 – RANDOLPH COUNTY SCHOOLS

During a special meeting of the Randolph County Board of Education, the board voted unanimously to reschedule graduation ceremonies for July 25, 2020. This impacts the six traditional schools in the system (ERHS, PGHS, RHS, SWRHS, THS & WHS) as well as Randolph Early College High School students.

The time for each school's ceremony will be announced later.
