A sixth inning grand slam by Trey Way was the biggest highlight for Post 45. Tanner Marsh had 3 hits with an rbi and 3 runs scored. Adam Cole hit a home run and he and Blake Marsh both drove in 3 runs. The home runs by Way and Cole were the first of the season for both players.

Blake Marsh pitched four innings for the win giving up 1 hit and 2 walks with 7 strikeouts. Trey Way (1 hit, 1 walk, 1 strikeout), Tyler Parks (1 run, 2 hits, 1 strikeout) and Drew Harmon (1 strikeout) finished the game throwing 1 inning each.

An eight-run first inning propelled Post 45 to the division win. Braylen Hayes hit his second home run of the season and Tanner Marsh drove in 3 runs on 2 hits including a double.

Randolph County used three pitchers who gave up one earned run each. Tanner Marsh got the win going five innings with 2 hits, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Connor Adams and Braylen Hayes threw one inning of relief each.

A number of Southwestern Randolph athletic teams have been recognized as Scholar Athlete Teams for the Spring. In order to qualify, they must have attained a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.1 or higher.

Randolph County and High Point-Thomasville matched hits with 10 apiece but Post 87 managed to complete their comback with four runs in the bottom of the seventh for the division win at Finch Field.

Tanner Marsh was 3-for-3 with 2 rbi and 2 runs. Alex Martinez and Braylen Hayes had 2 hits each. Robert Garner pitched into the seventh inning. Blake Marsh took the loss in relief.

Adam Cole went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Randolph County's offense. Cole had a double, 2 rbi and scored twice. Trey Way had 2 hits with 2 rbi and 2 runs. Eleven different Post 45 players scored at least 1 run with Tatum Marsh recording 3 runs.

Landon Williamson got the win with 4 innings pitched giving up 3 runs on 2 hits with 4 walks, a hit batter and 1 strikeout. Connor Adams pitched the final inning.

The Post 81 player of the game is TJ McGraw, who hit a go ahead 2-run home run in the top of the 6th inning to put ER up for good. Also contributing at the plate, Luke Thomas had 2 hits including a triple, Chance Terry had 2 hits including a double, and Aidan Allred also added a double.

Jacob Bates got the win on the mound, going 5 innings and giving up 1 run while striking out four. Nathan Gardner picked up the save going 2 innings and striking out three.

Eastern Randolph is back in action tomorrow against High Point Post 87 for a non-league match-up. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 at Craven Stadium.

Tanner Marsh pitched four innings and got the win allowing 1 run on 1 hit with 3 walks, a hit batter and 4 strikeouts. Drew Harmon (1 IP) and Tyler Parks (2 IP, Save) followed Marsh on the mound with hitless ball.

Blake Marsh (triple) and Tanner Marsh had 2 hits each. Braylen Hayes and Tatum Marsh (2 rbi) also had hits for Post 45.

Cleveland County 8, Morgantown, WV 0

Morgantown, WV 3, Randolph County 2  (8)

West Virginia Post 2 tied the game with a solo home run in the top of the seventh then took advantage of four walks in the eighth to score the eventual winning run.

NC Post 45 took a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning when Tatum Marsh drove in Josh Meadows and Adam Cole but left the bases loaded in the sixth and seventh innings. Drew Harmon took the loss for Randolph County.


June 24, 2022 – SOFTBALL POST-SEASON HONORS

All-State and All-District teams have been announced by the North Carolina Softball Coaches Association and several players from Randolph County were recognized for outstanding play during the 2022 spring season.

Among 1A players in District 5, Eastern Randolph's Ayanna Mears, Addie Flinchum and Skylar Pugh were named to the All-District Team.

Skylar Pugh was named 1A Pitcher of the Year in District 5.

The 3A All-District 5 Team includes Morgan Coward and Salem Lee of Asheboro High School.

In 2A softball, Wheatmore's Carmen Turgeon joined six players from Providence Grove – Edi Austin, Maddie Flinchum, Emma Mazzarone, Makayla McClain, Reann Saunders and Mailey Way as All-District performers.

The District 5 2A Player of the Year is Makayla McClain and Pitcher of the Year is Emma Mazzarone.

Three Providence Grove Patriots including seniors Edi Austin and Makayla McClain were named All-State in softball along with junior Emma Mazzarone.

Along with All-State honors, Makayla McClain is the 2A Player of the Year (West Region) and Emma Mazzarone is the 2A Pitcher of the Year (West Region).

Robert Garner pitched four innings for the win allowing 1 run on 2 hits with 3 walks, a hit batter and 3 strikeouts. Blake Marsh and Tatum Marsh each gave up a run before Tanner Marsh took over and earned a save by recording the final out.

Post 45 got multiple hits from Tatum Marsh (2 doubles), Tanner Marsh (2 doubles), Blake Marsh and Adam Cole (double) with rbi from Blake (2), Adam and Tanner.

Post 81 dropped a hard fought game in extra innings to Greensboro Post 53.

In a gritty win for Post 81, Eastern Randolph defeated Greensboro Post 53 by a final score of 1-0 to extend our streak to 9 games in a row.

Tonight's player of the game is Chance Terry. Even though the bats were quiet tonight, Terry threw a complete game shutout giving up only 1 hit, and striking out 5 in seven innings.

Post 81 is back in action tomorrow against Greensboro again. Game time scheduled for 7:00 at NC Leadership Academy.

The two teams used a total of ten pitchers in the non-league contest with the combination of Tanner Marsh (3 IP), Blake Marsh (2 IP, W), Tatum Marsh (1 IP) and Grant Little (1 IP, S) getting the job done for Post 45.

Braylen Hayes hit a home run with 2 rbi while Tanner Marsh added a triple and an rbi, Tatum Marsh had 2 hits including a double and Drew Harmon added 2 hits and an rbi.

Eastern Randolph Post 81 made it 8 wins in a row!

Contributions from multiple players from Post 81 tonight were the deciding factor. Brody Gardner had 3 hits including 2 doubles to lead 81 at the plate. Karson Rickman, TJ McGraw, and Maddoc Glines also had 2 hits each. Glines lead the team with 2 rbi. 
Samuel Asbill got the win on the mound, going 6 strong innings and striking out 4.
Post 81 is back in action Wednesday in another league match-up against Greensboro Post 53. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 at Chatham Charter High School.

Post 81 made it seven straight wins with today's victory at Finch Field.

The player of the game was Luke Thomas who started on the mound and went 6 strong innings, gave up 1 er, and struck out nine. At the plate, Thomas went 2-for-4 with 2 home runs and 5 rbi.

Karson Rickman contributed 2 hits for Post 81, including a solo home run and TJ McGraw also had 2 hits.

Eastern Randolph is back in action for another league match-up Sunday night against Foothills Post 123. Game time is 7:00 at Craven Stadium.

Post 45 scored in 6 of their 7 innings and led from start-to-finish with Tanner Marsh going 4-for-5 (2 doubles) with 3 rbi and 3 runs to lead the offense.

Blake Marsh had 3 hits (double) with 3 rbi and 2 runs. Drew Harmon had 2 hits (2 doubles) as did Tatum Marsh and Carson Whitehead who drove in 4 runs.

Robert Garner went 6 innings for the win giving up the 5 earned runs on 9 hits with 1 hit batter and 5 strikeouts. Drew Harmon gave up 1 hit and had 1 strikeout in the seventh inning.


June 17, 2022 – ALUMNI HONORS

Matt Tinsley (WHS '18, Washington and Lee University '22) will soon be heading to Europe after being awarded a U. S. Teaching Assistantship. He will be teaching in secondary school in Austria during the upcoming school year.

A member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference All-Academic Team and a Washington and Lee Scholar Athlete, Matt was a defensive lineman for the Generals while majoring in Physics and earning a minor in German.

June 17, 2022 – COLLEGE COMMITMENT

Payton Shiflet, a recent graduate of Southwestern Randolph High School, has committed to continue her academic and volleyball career at Greensboro College.

Payton was a four-time All-Conference selection at SWR and twice received season Most Valuable Player recognition being named a Co-MVP in the Mid-Piedmont Conference as a junior and MVP of the Piedmont Athletic Conference following her senior season. Her 625 kills during the Cougar's 2021 State Championship season is fourth best for a single season according to the NCHSAA Record Book.

The Greensboro College Pride are members of USA South Athletic Conference.

Pitt County led the entire game, recording 10 hits to Randolph County's four.

Connor Adams pitched five innings and took the loss allowing 12 runs (3 er) on 9 hits with 2 walks and 2 hit batters. Adams struck out four. Tanner Marsh pitched the last two innings.

Alex Martinez had 2 hits with an rbi and runs scored. Drew Harmon (rbi, run) and Blake Marsh also had hit for Post 45.

Fuquay Nationals 12, Randolph County 7

Defending state champs Fuquay Nationals used a 7-run fourth inning to end the scoring with a 5 run lead.

Tatum Marsh had 2 hits and scored 3 runs for Randolph. Blake Marsh, Adam Cole and Josh Meadows had single hits. Landon Williamson started and took the loss.


June 15, 2022 – BASEBALL POST-SEASON HONORS

All-State teams have been announced by the North Carolina Baseball Coaches Association and several student-athletes from the area have been honored for outstanding play during the 2022 spring season.

The All-State Baseball Team in 2A features Player of the Year Brooks Brannon of the State Champion Randleman Tigers. Brannon is joined on the all-state roster by Randleman teammates Drake Purvis, Ryan White, Hunter Atkins and Braylen Hayes.

The 3A All-State Baseball Team includes Tanner Marsh of Asheboro High School.

In 1A baseball, Robert Garner of North Moore High School, and current Post 45 player, was selected Pitcher of the Year for 2022.


June 15, 2022 – WOMEN'S SOCCER POST-SEASON HONORS

All-State and All-Region teams have been announced by the North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association and several Randolph County student-athletes have been honored for outstanding play during the 2022 spring season.

Two members of the State Champion Wheatmore Warriors - Summer Bowman and Ellie Garrison - were selected to the All-State 2A Women's Soccer Team.

Additionally, long-time head coach Ricky Maness was named Coach of the Year in 2A soccer after guiding the Warriors to a perfect 25-0 season and the school's first ever State Championship.

The All-Region Teams for Region 8 include:

2A: Kylie Vaughan (RHS), Maggie Lowe (SWR), Kylie Zimpfer (SWR), Kaylee McDonald (THS), Natalie Bowman (WHS), Summer Bowman (WHS) and Ellie Garrison (WHS).

3A: Ashley Barrios (AHS), Madison Arroyo (AHS), Madison Luck (AHS) and Natalie Flores (AHS).

Randolph County 8, Davidson County 6

Randolph Post 45 trailed Davidson Post 8 5-0 at the mid-way point; tied the game in the fifth; fell behind 6-5 in the top of the sixth; and took the lead for good with 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Starter Grant Little pitched 2 innings then gave way to Drew Harmon for 3-and-a-third innings who was followed by Tatum Marsh for the final inning and two-thirds and got the win.

Harmon (3 rbi) and Josh Meadows (2 rbi) had 2 hits each with Meadows recording a double. Blake Marsh also drove in 2 runs.

Eastern Randolph 5, High Point 2

A big league victory over High Point Post 87 makes it 6 in a row for ER Post 81!

Player of the game tonight is Jacob Bates. He went 1-2 at the plate which included a 2 run home run that put Post 81 in the lead for good. Bates also came in and earned the 2 out save to help seal the victory.

Also contributing for Post 81 at the plate, Brody Gardner had 3 hits including 2 doubles. Chance Terry also had 2 hits tonight, both being doubles.

Samuel Asbill picked up the win on the mound for Post 81 throwing 6.1 innings with 5hits, 2 er and 4 strikeouts.

A big offensive night for post 81 resulting in 22 hits as a team!

Brody Gardner is our player of the game tallying 4 hits, including 2 home runs, with one being a grand slam. Gardner had 8 rbi and was a huge factor for 81 at the plate.

Post 81 also hit 2 other home runs, one coming from Aidan Allred and one from Jacob Bates. Parker Evans had 4 hits for 81, including a double and an rbi. Bates and McGraw each had 3 hits. Allred, Rickman, and Nathan Gardner all contributed 2 hits as well for Post 81.

We are back in action tomorrow vs another league opponent, High Point Post 87. Game time scheduled for 7:00 at Craven Stadium!

Wayne County 4, Randolph County 3  (at Cherryville)

Randolph Post 45 tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the seventh on a solo home run by Tyler Parks but Wayne Post 11 won it with a run in the bottom of the seventh.

Blake Marsh had 2 hits including a triple. Parks scored 1 and drove in 2 runs.

Robert Garner pitched 6+ innings and took the loss.

Randolph County 9, Cherryville 8

A grand slam by Grant Little helped propel Post 45 to an eight-run fourth inning and the one-run win in Cherryville. Little's homer, two hits by Tatum Marsh - including a triple, and a single by Drew Harmon accounted for all of Randolph's hits in the game as Post 45 took advantage of 10 walks issued by Post 100 pitchers.

Drew Harmon was the third of four pitchers used and got the win giving up 1 run on 2 hits in an inning-and-a-third on the mound. Blake Marsh earned the save.

Tanner Marsh got the complete game, five-inning win giving up 2 hits with 1 walk, a hit batter and 3 strikeouts.

Tatum Marsh led the offense with a 3-for-4 game, 1 rbi and 2 runs scored. Tyler Parks hit a double and recorded 2 rbi. Blake Marsh, Grant Little, Adam Cole and Alex Martinez also had hits for Post 45.

Matt Murchison was 2-for-3  with a double and a triple and selected player of the game. Luke Thomas hit his first home run of the season.

Luke Thomas was selected player of the game for game two with 2 hits including a two-run double to put Post 81 in front in the sixth inning. Jacob Bates and Matt Murchison also had 2 hits each.

Eastern Randolph will face Sandy Ridge again Monday in a league contest at Sandy Ridge.

With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Drew Harmon drove in Blake Marsh with the game ending run to get the win and snap a two-game skid by Randolph County. Harmon had three of Post 45's four hits with 2 doubles, 2 rbi and 2 runs scored. Tanner Marsh had Randolph's fourth hit.

Landon Williamson (3.2 IP), Josh Meadows (1.1 IP), Harmon (1 IP) and winning pitcher Tatum Marsh (1 IP) spent time on the mound for Post 45.

Post 81 recorded 15 hits led by Karson Rickman's 4-for-4 night with 2 rbi and 2 runs scored. Luke Thomas, Brody Gardner and Matt Murchison also had multiple hit nights with home runs by Gardner and TJ McGraw.

Luke Thomas started the game and went 5 innings giving up 6 runs on 8 hits with 1 walk and 9 strikeouts. Chance Terry got the win in relief going 2 innings with 1 walk and 1 strikeout.

The Mid-Piedmont 3A Conference has announced All-Conference selections for spring sports.

Singled out for special recognizition this season are Track & Field MVP (Field Events) Arianna Lovingood-Smith, and Coach of the Year in women's soccer Emily Ramon, Asheboro.

June 6, 2022 - COLLEGE COMMITMENT

Asheboro senior Arianna Lovingood-Smith will continue her education at UNC Charlotte and be a part of 49er's Cheerleading.

Arianna was also a competitor for AHS Track & Field with Mid-Piedmont Conference championships in high jump, long jump and triple jump this spring along with two top ten finishes in this year's 3A State Championship Meet in the triple jump (4th place) and high jump (7th place).

From Post 81: Post 81 came from 5 runs down in the bottom of the 8th inning to beat Sandy Ridge 12-11 on Aidan Allred's walk off hit-by-pitch.

Player of the game tonight for Post 81 is Luke Thomas. Thomas led 81 with 4 hits, along with 2 RBI's and 3 runs scored. Chance Terry had 2 hits and 3 RBI's for 81, including the game tying 2-run single in the 8th inning to help push 81 to victory. Brody Gardner and Nathan Gardner also contributed 2 hits apiece.

Fuquay Nationals 10, Randolph County 1

Drew Harmon drove in Adam Cole on a gound-out in the seventh to prevent the shutout but Post 45 fell to defending state champs Fuquay Nationals in their first game in McCrary Park this summer.

Cole and Tatum Marsh had 2 hits each and Alex Martinez added one hit.

Connor Adams took the loss going four innings with 7 runs (6 er) on 8 hits, 4 walks and 2 strikeouts. Tatum Marsh worked 3 innings giving up 3 runs (1 er) on 3 hits with a walk, hit batter and a strikeout.

BASEBALL – 2A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP (at Burlington)

Randleman 12, Whiteville 5

Randleman picked up a rare come-from-behind win in game two of the 2A Championship Series to earn their second consecutive baseball championship.

Whiteville led 3-0 after one inning but by the time it was over the Tigers had accumulated 17 hits including 6 doubles and a triple. Hunter Atkins and Gus Shelton had 3 hits each while Championship Series MVP Brooks Brannon was one of five players with 2 hits apiece.

Ryan White worked all 7 innings allowing 5 runs (3 er) on 6 hits with 3 walks, 4 hit batters and 8 strikeouts.

Every Randolph starter recorded a hit with Tatum Marsh leading the way on a 2-for-3 night at the plate. Tatum had a double and a triple while Tanner Marsh and Tyler Parks had doubles and Blake Marsh a triple.

Robert Garner got the win with six innings pitched, He gave up 1 run on 6  hits with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. Blake Marsh pitched the final inning with 2 strikeouts.

WOMEN'S SOCCER – 2A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP (at Cary)

Wheatmore 4, Clinton 1

Wheatmore completed a perfect 25-0 season with a win in the 2A State Championship. It is the school's first State Championship.

The Warriors got a goal from Ellie Garrison how broke the state record for most in a season. Championship MVP Summer Bowman scored twice and Kara Comer added the final goal in the closing minutes.

Randleman 10, Whiteville 0

Drake Purvis got the no-hit win with 1 walk, 1 hit batter and 12 strikeouts in five innings of work as Randleman tied the state record for wins in a season with their 32nd.

Every Tiger in the lineup scored, with Trey Way crossing the plate twice, in Randleman's 5-inning win in game 1 of the 2A championship series.

Brooks Brannon had 3 hits, including 2 doubles with an rbi, and Kaden Ethier had 2 hits, including a double with 2 rbi.

Post 45 had an early lead and got 2 hits each from Tatum Marsh (2 doubles), Tanner Marsh, Grant Little (double, 2 rbi) and Landon Williamson but had trouble slowing down Rowan County which used an 8-run third to take the lead and pull away.

June 2, 2022 – CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND

The spring sports season and the 2021-2022 high school sports year will come to an end this weekend with state championships in baseball, softball and women's soccer. Randolph County will be represented in two of those sports by Randleman baseball and Wheatmore soccer.

Wheatmore will face Clinton in the 2A Soccer Championship Friday night at 7:00 at the Koka Booth Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. Tickets are $10 (plus service fee) and available online at gofans.com.

Randleman will play Whiteville for the 2A Baseball Championship in a best-of-three series at Burlington Athletic Stadium with game one scheduled for Friday night at 8:00 and game two Saturday afternoon at 2:00. If a third game is necessary it will be played at either 5:00 or 8:00 Saturday. Series passes are available online at gofans.com for $20 (plus service fee) until midnight tonight. Any unsold tickets will be available Friday for Friday only ($8 plus service fee) and Saturday only ($12 plus service fee).

Softball ticket arrangements are similar to baseball at gofans.com.

Some venues are 'cash-less' (including concessions) so credit/debit cards will be needed.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

West Region champs Wheatmore (24-0) will play East Region champion Clinton (25-2) Friday night. Both are making their first appearance in the women's soccer championship. According to the NCHSAA Record Book, Wheatmore's 191 goals this season is the most ever scored in one season, beating the 185 scored by East Forsyth in 1988. The Warrior's 24 game win streak is a school record and tied with Page for the 8th longest streak all-time.

Individual season records include Ellie Garrison's 76 goals which is the most ever by a sophomore and currently tied for the most ever in a season according to the record book. Thirty-three assists by senior Kara Comer is tied for 3rd place all-time for assists in a season.

BASEBALL

The Randleman Tigers (31-1) are making their 3rd straight appearance in the baseball championship series falling to North Lincoln in 2019 and defeating R-S Central in 2021 for Randleman's second state title (2011).

The Whiteville Wolfpack (23-3) program has 9 State Championships to their credit in 2A and 1A baseball including the 2012 title over Randleman.

Thirty-one wins this season is the most in Randleman history and tied for the 2nd most wins in a season all-time. East Rutherford (2004) holds the record with 32 wins.

Senior Brooks Brannon has 20 home runs this year and is tied (with his father Paul Brannon) for the most home runs in a season.
