AHS: Josh Meadows hit a grand slam and Tanner Marsh had 3 hits and a walk with four runs scored to highlight the 14-hit night by the Blue Comets. Two hits each for Alex Martinez (3 rbi), Meadows (4 rbi) Cohen Caviness (run) and Connor Adams (3 runs).
WHS: Rylan Smith had 2 hits and Mason Rich had a hit for the Warriors. Rob Hales and Sam Greene saw time on the mound.

SWR: 15 hits powered the Cougars to the win. Three hits each for Landon Williamson (triple, 3 rbi, run) and Alex Scruggs (2 rbi). Two hits for Adam Cole (2 runs), Lane Dalke (rbi) and Kamden Carter (rbi).
Landon Williamson gave up 4 runs (3 er) on 4 hits with 4 walks and 4 strikeouts in 4 innings and got the win.

March 14, 2022 – NCHSAA / STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION
The North Carolina High School Athletic Association and the State Board Of Education have reached an agreement which will allow the NCHSAA to continue administrating high school sports in the state.
James Alverson, NCHSAA Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations, Publications and Special Events, stated in an email this afternoon that a Memorandum of Understanding between the two entities had been approved. The final step was an affirmative vote last week by three-quarters of the schools which make up the state association which suspended the NCHSAA “Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws that are in conflict with the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding.”
A law passed by the NC General Assembly and signed by Governor Cooper last fall set a deadline of Tuesday, March 15 (tommorrow) for the Board Of Education and the NCHSAA to reach an agreement.
The agreement goes into effect on July 1, 2022.

The North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association has named eight Randolph County players to the All-District Teams for District 8. The Association has also voted Randleman's Brandon Varner as Coach of the Year in Women's Basketball for District 8.
Players named to the All-District Women's Teams include Gracyn Hall (Randleman), Elizabeth York (Randleman), Alexis Maness (Southwestern Randolph) and Autumn Gentry (Trinity).
All-District selections to the men's teams include Zane Caudle (Providence Grove), Ashton Troutman (Uwharrie Charter), Dominic Payne (Trinity) and Tramir Martin (Asheboro).
Players and Coaches are chosen from among NCBCA member schools of all classifications in each district. District 8 includes Randolph, Davidson, Montgomery, Stanly and Union Counties.

AHS: Connor Adams got the win 1 run on 2 hits in 4 innings of work. There were 2 hits each for Davis Gore (HR, rbi) and Tanner Marsh (double, 2 rbi). Gage Miller had a hit and 2 walks with an rbi. Josh Meadows hit a home run and recorded 2 rbi.

The championship match-ups in high school basketball have been determined. Game schedules and locations (Smith Center/Reynolds Coliseum) should be announced Monday.

1A Men – Chatham Charter (33-1), only loss came to UCA (57-56, OT)
2A Women – Defending champ Shelby eliminated by Salisbury (45-44, 2 OT)
2A Women – Farmville Central in 4th straight championship. Runner up in '19 & '21, co-champs in '20
2A Men – Farmville Central trying for 4 championships in a row (including co-championship in 2020)
2A – Both teams from Farmville Central were also in the finals in 2019 & 2020
3A Women – Northwood, second straight year a Chargers team has been in the finals (men's team finished runner up last season)
4A Women – Chambers (formerly Zebulon Vance High School) trying for 3 in a row (including co-championship in 2020)
4A Men – Weddington is the defending 3A champs

PG: The Patriots recorded 13 hits - 6 in an 11 run first inning - including 2 hits each by Luke Thomas (triple, rbi), Zander Smith (double, 4 rbi), Tyler Foust and Jaylen Beasley (rbi).
Jacob Hart got the win giving up 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits with 2 strikeouts. Tyler Foust struck out 3 in relief.

WHS: Rylan Smith was 4 for 4 with 2 home runs and 4 rbi. Jake Parks had 2 hits. Sam Greene hit a home run.
Travis Hurt, Parker Kines, Rylan Smith and Mason Rich saw time on the mound and combined for 16 strikeouts.

SWR: Macie Crutchfield struck out 15 in earning the win. Two hits each for Caressa King (triple), Molly Strider (2 doubles) and Maddie Varner (2 rbi). Madeline Smith hit a double with 2 rbi.

WHS: Carmen Turgeon recorded 14 strikeouts while allowing 2 earned runs in the win. Turgeon also had 4 hits and scored 3 runs. Hannah Shoe had 2 hits and 3 rbi.
Eastern Randolph 16, Asheboro 1
ER: Skylar Pugh got the win allowing 1 run on 2 hits with 8 strikeouts.
Bailey Herring was 4 for 4 with 2 doubles, 2 rbi and 2 runs scored. Two hits each for Pugh (double, 3 runs) and Payton Hill (2 rbi).
AHS: Salem Lee had both hits for Asheboro (triple, run scored).

RHS: Brooks Brannon had 3 hits (home run, 2 runs, 5 rbi), Trey Way had 2 hits (home run, 3 runs, 2 rbi). Ryan White struck out 6 in 4 innings and got the win. Drake Purvis struck out 2 in 1 inning of relief work.

Diamond McDowell (AHS '21) has been named women's basketball Freshman of the Year in the South Atlantic Conference. McDowell started 22 games as a freshman for Anderson University which led the SAC in team rebounding and field goal defense.

Lane Dalke and Adam Cole had 2 hits each for SWR but the Cougars could not overcome Oak Grove's 11-1 lead after the first inning.

Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh, Gage Miller's grand slam earned the victory for Asheboro in the Blue Comets' season opener. Miller had 2 hits in the game, Tanner Marsh had 3 hits.
Connor Adams was the fourth pitcher to see the mound for AHS and got the win.

Zander Smith pitched 4 innings (1 bb, 11 k) for the win and combined with Jose Alonso (1 inning, 1 k) in the five inning no-hitter.
Luke Thomas (2 runs, rbi), Logan Fox (2 doubles, 2 runs, 3 rbi), Tyler Foust (double, 2 runs, 3 rbi) and Lemuel Coltrane (double, 3 runs, rbi) had 2 hits apiece.
