February 24, 2021 – BASKETBALL ACCOLADES

Despite changes brought by the pandemic, the North Carolina Christian School Association will hold it's annual All-Star Basketball games for players in the 2A classification. Four athletes from Faith Christian School have been selected to participate in the events which will be hosted by Alamance Christian School in Burlington.

Senior guard Abbey Stout and freshman point guard Karrie Gaines were members of the FCS women's team which reached the state NCCSA quarterfinals this season before losing to Faith Christian Academy (Goldsboro).

Senior Trevor Brunson and junior Shawn Cox helped the men's team to the semifinal round where they were eliminated by eventual state champ Berean Baptist Academy (Fayetteville).

The Girl's 2A All-Star Game is scheduled to begin at 12 noon this Saturday, February 27 with the Boy's 2A All-Star Game to follow about 2:00.

Trevor Brunson has been named to the NCCSA All-State 1st Team for the last two years. On February 16, he became to first player in program history to pass the 2000 career points mark. His season high in scoring was 46 against Berean Baptist and has also averaged double figure rebounding this season.

Trevor has committed to play basketball at Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC following high school where the Bruins are to begin the transition from the National Christian College Association into the NCAA during the next (2021-22) school year.

February 18, 2021 – BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS

The NCHSAA announced Wednesday evening that bracketing for the upcoming basketball playoffs will be delayed until Sunday afternoon.

The reporting deadline for conference standings and team records had been Saturday morning with brackets for the tournament to be announced that afternoon. However, with winter weather expected to affect much of the state Thursday and Friday, the association has changed the deadline to noon on Sunday. The change means that Saturday is now the final day for regular season contests.

Even though the playoff field has been cut in half due to the pandemic-shortened schedule, Randolph County should be well represented with at least six teams expected to advance into the state playoffs.

Round one is scheduled for this Tuesday, February 23.

February 16, 2021 – OUTDOOR SPORTS LIMITATIONS

The NCHSAA is set to discuss the current limitations on spectators at outdoor sporting events with the NC Department of Health and Human Services, according to published reports. Currently, the maximum number of spectators allowed is 100. That number is set in the current executive order by Governor Cooper which will expire on February 28.

In an email sent to member schools by Commissioner Que Tucker, the NCHSAA would like to allow more people at outdoor events if it will be safe to do so.
