Asheboro 35, Northwood 7

After the visitong Chargers scored first, Asheboro tied the game on a Garrison Cheek rushing touchdown and Jefferson Aguilar's pat kick in the 2nd quarter.

Dallas Brinton connected with Connor Brinton on a scoring pass in the 3rd to give the Blue Comets the lead which grew to 21-7 after a long 3rd quarter scoring pass to Cheek. Both Connor Brinton (70 rushing yards) and Dallas Brinton (111 rushing yards) added rushing touchdowns in the 4th quarter and Aguilar completed a 5-for-5 night in extra point kicks for the final score.

Dallas Brinton completed 10 passes for 217 yards and 2 touchdowns. Cheek made three catches for 115 yards and a score. Connor Brinton had three receptions for 58 yards and a touchdown.

Providence Grove 39, Morehead 14

Landon Fox connected with Chase Collins on a 12 yard pass and Connor Haithcock on a 50-yarder for two passing touchdowns in the second quarter. The Patriots then added a safety and a 39-yard field goal by Kyler Keller for a 19-0 lead at halftime. Haithcock's score, the safety and the field goal all came in the final two minutes of the half.

Haithcock recorded an interception and returned the ball to the Morehead 12 early in the 3rd quarter which set up Collins for a 6-yard rushing score. Nick Straughn then ran the ball into the end zone twice in the final two minutes of the third with touchdown runs of 14 and 62 yards.

Eastern Randolph 42, Randleman 14

Cade McCallum passed for 122 yards and four touchdowns. McCallum and ran for another score while Kobe Walker rushed for 212 yards in the Wildcats' win.

Marcus Bowden, Garrett Saunders, Justin Brown and Cainan Glover were recipients of the touchdown passes and Jayden Spinks intercepted a pass which he returned 39 yards for an Eastern Randolph touchdown.

For the Tigers, Kayden Saunders scored on a one yard run and Reid Herring, who had a 200-yard passing night, had a four yard run for a touchdown. Saunders had 80 yards rushing and 81 receiving for the game


August 27, 2026 - Thursday Results

FOOTBALL

SW Randolph 55, Trinity 0

Levi Dalke passed for 103 yards and 4 touchdowns and carried the ball in for another as the Cougars improved to 2-0.

Dalke was 6-for-9 passing with scoring throws to Asher Haggerty (42 yards), Braxton Proctor (9 yards), Trivette Kennedy (16 yards) and Nathan Garner (5 yards). His rushing score was a 14-yarder.

Garner led the rushing attack with 82 yards on 5 carries. Carter King totaled 63 yards on 6 runs and Carter Horsefield had 8 carries for 47 yards. Receivers Haggerty (60 yards) and Proctor (22 yards) had 2 catches each.

Defensively, Kaiden Mabe returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown and the defense scored a safety on a tackle in the end zone by Evan Greene.

TJ Schneider was 5-for-5 in pat kicks and good on a 24 yard field goal try.

Trinity was stymied on the ground which made it tough in the passing game. Nick Soles was 9-for-15 passing for 46 yards. Prince Edwards had 3 catches and Cohen Wolfe two. Zaire Gill, Davis Morris, Ankii Baskins and Nick Beane made 1 reception each.

Levi Dalke completed 14-of-16 passes for a school record 298 yards along with three touchdowns to Kenan Sugg. The Cougars also got two rushing scores by Asher Haggerty and a rushing touchdown by Brady Combs. TJ Schneider was 4-for-4 in pat kicks and added a 24 yard field goal to the offensive total.

The Cougars defense added two points the a tackle in the end zone by Braxton Proctor for a safety.

Sugg grabbed 5 passes for 97 yards, Nathan Garner had 4 catches for 89 yards and Haggerty 3-for-27 yards. Trivett Kennedy (32 yards) and Kaiden Mabe (17) caught one pass each.

On the ground, Carter Horsefield had 8 carries for 58 yards, Brady Combs 7-for-12, Haggerty 4-for-38, Garner carried 4 times for 33 yards and Dalke rushed 6 times for 24 yards.

Southern Alamance 28, Eastern Randolph 7

Kobe Walker scored on a 6 yard run and Gio Perez' extra point gave the Wildcats a 7-6 lead but Southern Alamance scored in each quarter for the week 1 win.

Walker finished with 124 yards on 19 carries to lead the Eastern offense.

Connor Haithcock returned the opening kick 72 yards for a touchdown and an early lead for the Patriots. Nick Straughn carried for 161 yards and 2 touchdowns while quarterback Landon Fox rushed for a score.

Fox was 8-for-14 passing for 59 yards. Chase Collins caught 4 passes for 28 yards. Haithcock made 2 catches for 15 yards.

Randleman's scoring came through the air with Reid Herring completing 13 passes for 207 yards and 3 touchdowns, connecting with Hanry Frye (3-72), Trey Burnett (3-48) and Jamari Rice (4-54) on touchdown passes. Lincoln Lawson added 38 yards with 3 receptions and Kayden Saunders led the rushing game with 109 yards on 13 carries.

From WHS: Wheatmore Cross Country ran at the Bob Schilly Invitational hosted by East Davidson on Saturday. Our girls were unable to score as a team due to having less than 5 runners while our boy's team finished 5th out of 10 scoring teams, slightly behind conference rival West Davidson while soundly defeating last year's conference championship team, East Davidson.

August 7, 2026 - FALL SPORTS

Practice for the fall sports season has been under way for more than two weeks and the first games are only days away.

Boy's soccer is among the first to start their season with Randleman traveling to defending state champion Southwestern Randolph and Trinity hosting Glenn on Monday.

Volleyball also begins Monday with Providence Grove at Chatham Charter and Wheatmore hosting Central Davidson.

Asheboro, Southwestern Randolph and Wheatmore girl's tennis teams are in action Tuesday. The Blue Comets host the Cougars to open the season while the Warriors travel to North Stanly.

The first Cross Country event involving a Randolph County school is scheduled for Saturday, August 15 and girl's golf teams will likely start action the following week.

Football is still two weeks away with the first game date set for August 21.

SportsTone has two more nights of 'Replay' games from the 2025-26 school year (tonight and Monday) before On the Ball returns this Tuesday at 5 pm followed by varsity volleyball about 6 o'clock. Both of those webcasts will originate from Asheboro High School.

August 3, 2026 - ALUMNI HONORS

Brooks Brannon (RHS '22) hit seven home runs in July for the Portland (Maine) Sea Dogs and led the Eastern League with a 1.077 OPS earning Sea Dogs Player of the Month honors presented by SoFi.

Brannon also hit 8 doubles in July and drove in 19 runs. The catcher had several multi-hit outings including three 3-hit games.
