Eastern Randolph totaled 7 hits by 7 players - Avery Wright, Alex Kivett, Bryson Marley, Carlos Cordero (double, 2 runs), Cade McCallum, Samuel Asbill (2 rbi) amd Bishop Moore (rbi).

Cade McCallum gave up 6 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits and 2 walks with 5 strikeouts in 3.2 innings. Bryson Marley pitched 2.1 innings with 1 hits and 4 strikeouts,

Trinity 9, Asheboro 7  (8)

Asheboro scored 5 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at 7-7. Trinity scored twice in the top of the eighth and held on for the win.

Brody Little (rbi, run) and Jacob Proctor (double, 2 rbi, run) had 2 hits each for the Bulldogs. Lincoln Coble had 1 hit and an rbi.

Asheboro got hits from Ben Luck (double, 2 rbi), Aiden Robinson (rbi, run) and Adam Curry (run).

Andon Simmons got the win allowing 2 runs (earned) on 2 hits and 5 walks with 10 strikeouts. Ethan Willard pitched 1.2 innings and Proctor the final out for a save.

Six Blue Comets combined in the game with Luck taking the loss.

Ayden Byrd and Clay Hill had 1 hit each with Byrd driving in the Wheatmore run on a sacrifice fly.

The Tigers were powered by 14 hits in the road win. Kenzie Ivey had 3 hits with a triple, homerun, 3 rbi and 2 runs scored. Two hits each by Kaylee Phillips (homerun, 2 rbi, run), Addyson Dees (double, rbi, 2 runs) and Elsie Prince (double, 2 runs). Single hits by Saniyah DeLoatch (run), Teanna Bostick (rbi, run), Kinsley White, Alexis Barker (2 runs) and Kaylie St John (double, run).

Ivey gave up 4 earned runs in the win with 5 hits and 2 walks against 14 strikeouts.

Wheatmore 8, Southwest Guilford 5

Maddie Nichols had 3 hits and 3 rbi for the Warriors including a double nd a triple. Hannah Shoe had 2 hits (double, run) and Adalyn Boles (souble, 2 rbi), Arielle Turgeon (triple, 2 rbi, run), Kylie Hemric (double, run) and Savannah Heiney provided a hit each.

Carmen Turgeo rmanaged 3 walks at the plate while striking out 12 in the win.

Jessica Ann Huneycutt gave up 7 hits and 8 walks but struck out 15 in a winning effort.

Kaitlyn McCoy had 4 hits and drove in 6 runs for Trinity. Two hits each for Kara Dagenhart (double, 4 runs), Eva Porter (2 rbi, 3 runs), Faith Powell (4 rbi, 2 runs) and Carlie Roberts (2 runs). Single hits for Mya Hooker (rbi), Olivia Church and Samarah Shepherd (4 runs).

Addison Allen had 15 strikeouts but gave up 15 hits and 8 walks and took the loss.

Allen lad Asheboro hitting with 3 hits (double, triple), 3 runs and 3 rbi. Kyla Woody had 2 hits (double, 2 rbi, 3 runs), A'Mya Mosby (2 runs) and Alexis Staley (rbi) had a hit each.

Asheboro led 9-8 after 6 innings. Trinity scored 5 in the top of the seventh and Asheboro 4 in the bottom of the inning. Trinity then struck for 4 more runs before holding on for the Bulldog's only 1-2-3 defensive inning in the bottom of the eighth inning.

From ER: Eastern Randolph softball won 5-0 against Jordan- Matthews. Addie Flinchum and Trinity Hardin were the winning pitcher-catcher combo having 15 strikeouts and only allowing 1 hit.

Wynne Bartholow had 2 hits, Addie Flinchum had 2 hits, Trinity Hardin had 1 hit, Hailey Ritter had an rbi double, and Logann Beaver had a 3 run double

Trinity's Brody Little went 3-3 at the plate with 3 rbi on a single, double and home run. Andon Simmons had 2 hits with a run and an rbi. Ethan Willard (2 rbi, 3 runs) and Gage Griffiths (rbi, 2 runs) also had hits.

Lincoln Coble didn't allow any runs and got the win.

Wheatmore got single hits from Ayden Byrd, Caleb Coggins (double, 2 rbi), Yariell Figueroa, Jonathan Heraldo (double, rbi), Clay Hill, Rowan Wagner and Lukas Usterbowski (double).

Parker Kines struck out 10 with no earned runs on 4 hits and 2 walks in four innings. Heraldo pitched three innings allowing 1 earned run on 3 hits and 2 walks with 4 strikeouts.

Ben Luck (double, 2 rbi) and Sam Gore (run) had two hits each for Asheboro. Connor Adams (2 runs) and Adam Curry (double, 2 rbi) also had hits.

ER recorded 5 hits and took advantage of 7 walks in the win. Bryson Marley (rbi), Bishop Moore (rbi), Lucas Smith, Samuel Asbill and Cody Bowman (2 rbi) had hits. Avery Wright picked up 2 rbi without a hit. Smith and Carlos Cordero scored twice. Marley, Asbill and Alex Kivett also scored.

Samuel Asbill gave up all 5 runs (1 earned) on 6 hits and 5 walks with 3 strikeouts in 5 innings. Cade McCallum walked 1 and struck out 6 in 2 innings of work.

February 26, 2024 - COLLEGE COMMITMENTS

Morgan Heilig has signed with Pfeiffer University to continue her academic and athletic career. While at Providence Grove High School she has been named All-Conference in golf all four years as well as four years Academic All-Conference, state tournament qualifier three times, conference Player of the Year her senior year and Morgan was sited with the Unsung Hero award winner for the Patriots.

The Pfeiffer Falcons compete in the USA South Athletic Conference.

Trinity’s Griffin Dills has committed to Averett University to play Football. A leader on and off the field, he is a three-year All-Conference selection in football in the Piedmont Athletic Conference.

The Averett Cougars are members of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

February 22, 2024 – ALUMNI NEWS

The USA South Athletic Conference has named Tanaesha Ellison (AHS '21) the Women's Basketball Conference Player of the Year. She is the first player from William Peace University to receive that honor.

Ellison led the conference in scoring, rebounds and steals through the 2023-24 regular season. She also set new standards for the Peace Pacers in single-game scoring and rebounding.

WRESTLING - STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS (Greensboro Coliseum Day 3)

Consolation Matches

Championships - NCHSAA RECAPS

Four Randolph County wrestlers won state championships Saturday as the 2023-24 season came to a close at the Greensboro Coliseum.

Trinity senior Gavin Hardister won the 2A title in the 215 pound weight class to finish the season with a 46-1 record.

Seniors Carson Robinson (40-3, 157 pounds) and Jaden Maness (33-3, 215 pounds) from Uwharrie Charter Academy won titles in 1A along with sophomore Lorenzo Alston (150). Alston is the lone repeat champion and was undefeated (43-0) in his second season.

Three championships for the Eagles is the second time the program has accomplished that feat having won three in 2020.

A total of 19 local wrestlers placed in the consolation and championship finals which is the most of any year in the past decade.

After winning the Dual Team Championships, UCA and Trinity missed out on sweeping the team titles. Robbinsville took the 1A Team Championship with 124.5 points over Avery County (114.5) which finished second in Dual Team wrestling and DT Champ UCA which finished third with 100.0 points.

In 2A, Dual Team runner-up Seaforth edged Trinity 136.0 to 133.5 for the team title. Two weeks ago it was Trinity winning the Dual Team Championship 36-31 over Seaforth.

February 14, 2024 - COLLEGE COMMITMENT

Evan Stepp of Trinity High School recently signed with Catawba College for football.

A 6' 6” lineman, Stepp is a three-time All-Conference performer and will join Catawba in the South Atlantic Conference.

February 12, 2024 – COACHING ANNOUNCEMENT

Wheatmore High School has announced a change in the football staff:

After 7 seasons as the Head Football Coach at Wheatmore High School, Coach Yarbrough has decided to step down from his position. We want to thank Coach Yarbrough for all of continued dedication to the student-athletes at Wheatmore.

We are in the process of finding the right fit to fill his shoes, and will make that announcement as soon as possible.

Philip Yarbrough was 34-37 in seven seasons including two second place finishes in the Piedmont Athletic Conference. In 2017 the Warriors tied with TW Andrews at 4-2 in the conference and in 2018 went 5-1 and advanced to the third round of the 2A playoffs.

INDOOR TRACK & FIELD - STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS (at JDL Fast Track)

1A/2A CHAMPIONSHIPS

A pair of Randleman athletes garnered top ten finishes in the unified 1A/2A Indoor Track & Field Championships in Winston-Salem. Senior Amari Ferdna finished 7th in triple jump and junior Tristan Chriscoe advanced to the finals in 55 meter hurdles where he placed sixth.

Eastern Randolph's James Jones qualified in pole vault; Trinity senior Kensley Fox was 13th in women's shot put; and Wheatmore's Zach Hazelwood placed 11th in the 3200 meter run. Hazelwood was the only PAC returner from last seasons title meet.

3A CHAMPIONSHIPS

In his second appearance in the 3A Championship Meet, senior Lance Everhart collected a trio of third place awards in high jump, long jump and pole vault.

Two other Asheboro seniors - Valentino Mark and Kai Matthews – also qualified for the state meet. Mark competed in the triple jump for a second straight year (16th place) while Matthews finished 5th in long jump in his first championship appearance.

Sophomore Jalaya Showers made her championship debut with an 11th place showing in the 55 meter dash.

SWIMMING – 1A/2A CHAMPIONSHIPS at Triangle Aquatic Center

Sophomore Megan Becker returned to the state championship meet for a second year, this time as a Uwharrie Charter Eagle, and picked up a pair of 3rd Place medals in the 100 Freestyle and the 200 Freestyle events in the unified 1A/2A Swimming Championships. Last year she finished 2nd and 4th in those events for Asheboro in 3A competition.

Colten Osborne qualified for the state meet for Wheatmore in the 100 Backstroke and Warrior Sydney Hall competed in her third championship meet in the 200 Freestyle event and placed 12th in the 100 Butterfly.

SWIMMING – 3A CHAMPIONSHIPS at Triangle Aquatic Center

Asheboro's Maci Columbia competed in the 3A State Championships for the third straight year and Tyler Smith qualified for a second consecutive year. Both were also part of two Blue Comets relay teams which advanced to the championship meet.

Although none made it through to the finals, Columbia swam to 10th place finishes in both the 100 yard breaststroke and the 500 yard freestyle events.
