For the fourth time this season Diamond McDowell (AHS '21) has been named women's basketball Player of the Week by the South Atlantic Conference.

McDowell and the Anderson (SC) University Trojans (7-3, 15-3) are among six teams crowded into the upper tier in the 13-team SAC standings.

The USA South Athletic Conference has named Tanaesha Ellison (AHS '21) Player of the Week in women's basketball for the third time this season.

Along with 15 rebounds, Ellison's 38 points for the Peace College Pacers in their only game last week is the second-most point total in a game this season to her 43-point game earlier this month.

D1 Softball has released the website's preseason “power rankings” lists of players expected to have major impacts in NCAA softball this spring. UNC transfer Alex Coleman (SWR '21) is ranked 35th on the outfielder list.

Coleman's 79 hits and 42 stolen bases in 2023 for Marshall University were top-ten in NCAA Division 1 softball. She was also top-twenty nationally in batting average (.427) and runs per game (1.11).

January 25, 2024 – DUAL TEAM WRESTLING

After a number of delays the NCHSAA has released pairings for the 2024 Dual Team Wrestling Playoffs. Team rankings show defending 1A Champion Uwharrie Charter Academy (29-1) and Trinity (33-0) in 2A holding the #1 positions in their classifications heading into the post-season. Four teams from the PAC qualified including Eastern Randolph in 1A and Wheatmore in 2A.

The first two rounds will be Saturday with the highest seeded team hosting the three other teams in that section of the bracket.

1A – East - #1 Uwharrie Charter will host #16 North Rowan (1-17) along with #9 Eastern Randolph (19-9) and #8 Northeast Carolina Prep (23-4).

2A – West - #1 Trinity will host #16 Reidsville (2-3) along with #8 Burns (17-7) and #9 Lincoln Charter (19-19).

Wheatmore (12-12) is the #15 seed in the west and will wrestle at #2 West Lincoln (20-4). Also in that section are #7 North Wilkes (15-6) and #10 West Davidson (6-8).

Two teams from the Mid-Piedmont Conference qualified in the 3A West Region with Central Davidson (17-4) seeded 9th and Montgomery Central (41-6) the 14th seed.

January 11, 2024 – ALUMNI HONORS

Tanaesha Ellison (AHS '21) has been honored with national Player of the Week recognition by D3hoops.com for her accomplishments for the William Peace Pacers in last week's action. Earlier this week she was named Women's Basketball Player of the Week in the USA South Conference.

Ellison totaled 60 points in two games and set Pacers single-game records for rebounds (24) and steals (11) against Mary Baldwin University on Saturday. She scored 33 Saturday after putting up 27 points in a Wednesday loss to Methodist University.

January 11, 2024 – COLLEGE COMMITMENTS

Two high school seniors have recently signed National Letters of Intent to continue their softball careers at the collegiate level.

Devon Kelly, Providence Grove, has committed to Pfeiffer University. Through three high school season Kelly has a .351 career batting average and was named All-Conference and All-District in 2023.

Micah Wilson of Southwestern Randolph has signed with Guilford College of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

Diamond McDowell (AHS '21) became the all-time leader in double-doubles for Anderson (SC) University women's basketball Wednesday night with 19 points and 12 rebounds (and 8 assists) in a South Atlantic Conference win at Limestone College.

It was the junior's 27th double-double for the AU Trojans.
